austin nathaniel scott !
though i walk through the valley of darkness.
Austin Scott had grown to really hate alarm clocks over the past few years. He missed it when he was younger and his mom could just come in and wake him up or one of his roommates, which was much easier for him and didn't scare the living crap out of him. His alarm clock though was one that just went off like a fire alarm and almost every time caused him to nearly fall out of his bed. He considered himself a pretty hard sleeper and you could probably have a party in his room without him knowing because once his head hits that pillow, Austin is knocked out. That damn alarm clock though did the trick and always woke him up that very second. Normally, he would just turn it off and either get up or go back to sleep and promise himself that he would get up in 5 minutes. What made him mad though was that he had forgotten to turn it off last night, so he was just awoken very early on a Saturday morning. Small bits of his black hair stuck up in certain places where he had slept on them over the night, his bright blue eyes blurry and watery. Most of the time when you saw Austin, he was looking good, but even he couldn't deny that those first few moments when he awoke in the morning he looked a little bit on the bad side. Well, not bad, but not at his greatest.
After that though, he couldn't fall back asleep, so Austin decided to just go ahead and get up, starting his Saturday earlier than his usual noon time. After his shower, he already looked like he usually did, which was at least awake and not scary. He ran his hand quickly over his short and damp hair, heading over to the fridge. All that he normally had for breakfast was just some energy drink and maybe a power bar if he had the time, never something that actually filled him up. When he realized that he had drunk all of his powerades, he was a bit frustrated. Austin had a habit of falling asleep or not really paying attention in class, so he usually chugged down a powerade or Monster energy drink in the morning. He might not of had classes today, but once Austin was awake, he wanted to stay that way until it was time for bed again, whenever that may be. He wasn't too fond of feeling lazy and just moping around the house for half the day. He thought about letting it be a lazy day for him anyways though, just not going out at all and staying home. Maybe watch a little bit of television, seeing as he only did that maybe an hour a night right before he passed out on his bed and that was it. Other than that though, Austin was rarely even at his house. He only stopped by to sleep every once in a while, eat, bathe, and change clothes. Sometimes he was staying with his friends or family, or it all had something to do with basketball.
It felt like he didn't even have much of a social life anymore thanks to that sport. It was ridiculous how one little thing can control everything you do, whether you like it to or not. Growing-up, Austin did like the sport and it was obvious by how tall he was getting each year that he'd probably do well with it, but he was never forced into the sport. Austin was an athletic kid by his own choice, doing sports like football, baseball, and basketball. He was good with his hands when it came to football, and fast on his feet with baseball. Put those two together, and you should have a pretty decent basketball player. He was always more into just hanging-out with his friends though than having to worry about some basketball practice, and that was totally fine with both of his parents if he didn't want to be apart of the sport. He liked it, but it wasn't his main obsession. Once his mother had re-married though after his father's tragic death, she picked just the most perfect husband she could, who happened to be an ex-NBA star. That guy made it clear that his new step-son was going to be a lean, mean, basketball playing machine or he'd just die a very unhappy man. Austin tried to make his now father a little bit more proud of him just because he wanted a dad now that his was gone, but Peter wasn't anything like Daniel. While Daniel was understanding and could live with whatever his son wanted in life, Peter only wanted Austin to want the same things that he wanted and nothing else. In his eyes, if Austin wasn't the best basketball player on the court, then he had failed at life or something melodramatic like that.
At this point though, basketball was his only way out. Austin is a smart guy despite what some people thought of him and could have easily gotten into college for his grades, but his father happened to die near the ending of his graduating year, so Austin just gave up on even trying and nearly flunked his way through the last semester. Him punching his Spanish teacher's lights out and getting 3 months house arrest didn't exactly help his cause either. Everything had just been tumbling down at that point in his life and all that he could turn to was basketball because it was what he was truly good at it and it brought him some relaxation and happiness. Only by himself though, because if Peter came out there then it would drive Austin insane. He doubted he could ever go off on Peter like he had Mr. Gonzales, but who knows, his step-dad was driving him near the edge these days with all the bull shit he tried to pull. Austin didn't even think he deserved to be in college this long, that he should have had an extra year of high school still and be a college sophomore instead. He was pretty sure that the only reason he graduated was either because so many colleges had wanted him to play for them or because his step-father paid the administration and used his fame to get him into the right college basketball team so he could become a hot shot like Peter one day. Austin wasn't looking for fame, really. Everyone knowing your business got on his nerves badly, and he'd just lose it. He did want to play in the NBA though and be a top player, so either way, he was still going to get a piece of something he didn't really want.
Finally, Austin had chosen what he wanted to do with his day. It wasn't sit around on his couch and watch numerous re-runs of South Park like he had sort of wanted to do in the back of his head, but it was to go by the park instead. He obviously wasn't going to stay there all day, but a good hour or two maybe. Austin knew that there was basketball courts there, but he wasn't going for them. Today was going to be basketball-free for Austin, so he was planning on going just to maybe jog around a bit and get some excersize in before the park crowded up with little kids and parents walking their huge, overly friendly dogs. He liked the park, anyways. It was quiet and not in the comotion of the big city all that much. Austin did like the city, but it was nice to get out of it for a little bit. He could never live in the country side because he'd miss being just 5 minutes away from everything and the sounds of the city too much and too fast, but he'd at least give it a try. It didn't take him all that long to drive up there, parking his car and setting the earbuds in so he could listen to his ipod while he jogged around. Music seemed to help somehow, he didn't know why, but it did. Austin had jogged around the park a few times by now, it being around 15-20 minutes at the most. He could go much longer since he was used to being forced into working-out for a few hours at a time, but he was on his own today so he was free to stop and take a break whenever he felt like it. Austin could have easily continued on, but decided to sit down on one of the many benches for a few minutes, taking a sip or two from his water bottle.
